Frequently Asked Questions About Amateur Female Jello Wrestling
What is the Jello?
We use a product called Fun Jell Crystals, which is better that Jello. We get it from a company called www.jellowrestling.com. Please check out the website and buy some if you like. Fun Jell is non-toxic and biodegradable. We use 2 cases to make 50 Gallons for our show. We like this product because the girls only get wet (not sticky or slimy) and because it is very simple to make. Just add the jell crystals to the water. Wait about an hour and Voila! You have fun jell for jello wrestling. They also make a product called Fun Jell Powder that sets up in minutes and works just as well for jello wrestling. We use Fun Jell Powder for our other show Disco Crisco Twister to slipery up the Twister board. Please look at pix from our shows to see the 2 products in action. We have used both and they are excellent.
How much does it cost to see the show?
Admission is free if you wrestle, $10 for girls who choose not to wrestle, $15 boys who come with girls, $25 for single guys (Get it? Bring a girl). We do this to greatly encourage women to attend, because most women who see the event want to participate the next time. Save $5 on your tix if you buy in advance at going.com/jellowrestle.
I want to wrestle! What do I do?
Females of all sizes, shapes, and skill levels are encouraged to participate. Just come to our "Wrestle Lesson" which is always at 6:30pm before our 8pm show. At that time you will meet the other wrestlers and learn some fun stunts. Our wrestlers have stage personalities and names and often dress to fit their character. We will help you to find yours. Please invite your friends to the show to cheer for you as you achieve your wrestling glory. If you have any questions please send Dana an email with your questions at DanaSterling@gmail.com
Who is responsible for AFJW?
Dana Sterling danasterling@gmail.com
Producer/ Manager/ Founder
"Sterling has successfully created a space that gives women permission to forget the hassle of deflecting criticism for their bodies' inadequacies and regress to a time when they felt comfortable being ridiculous. All it took was a creative impulse and the help from a little gelatin." -New York Press
Professional lighting designer and events coordinator Dana Sterling has been producing Amateur Female Jello Wrestling events monthly at downtown NYC club venues. The event features an elimination-style competition between "women with a hankering to try wrestling in gelatin, whether for love of sport or showmanship" (New York Times), accompanied by live musical acts and DJs who perform before, between, during, and after wrestling matches.
Sterling's team consists of sports-satire emcees who give the audience a ringside play-by-play of the matches and a professional wrestling trainer who leads new and veteran wrestlers in a lesson covering safety and wrestling techniques before every event. Sterling and her team consider their organization a 'feminist fight club', and work hard to provide a safe environment where women can develop and explore their 'inner wrestlers' while bonding with an outgoing group of females.

How can I get involved or help out?
The Staff of Amateur Female Jello Wrestling are always looking for people to help out. We frequently need help setting up before the show (which includes moving furniture and making the jello) and after the show, cleaning up. We also need volunteers for the following positions: Doorman, DJ, Sportscasters, Fight Trainers and Referees (referees female only). If you have any questions please send Dana an email with your questions at DanaSterling@gmail.com
What do I learn at the wrestle lesson?
At the wrestle lesson you will learn "fake" and "real" wrestling moves. Our number one concern is safety and our number two concern is fun. Our favorite moves include hair pull, clothesline, hip toss, flips and of coarse pins. We also include a warm up, a safety talk and character development.
Who teaches the wrestle lesson?
The lesson is taught by the more-advanced wrestlers, and we have had many fake fighting specialists come in to teach the wrestle lesson as well. We start with beginner-level moves that everyone can learn and review, and then we progress to more complicated moves that are supervised by our fight choreographer. If you have an idea, we can help you create new moves and do them safely with ease.

How long has this great event been going on?
Our first party took place September 2003. We have been having this party about once a month since then.
Why do you do it?
We do it because it is fun and it gives many women a chance to do something they haven't done before. This event is really creative and has always displayed great sportswoman-ship from its many participants.
Where did the idea come from?
Once upon a time, in a magical far-away land called college, Chris Peters and Dana Sterling had a brain-fart and Amateur Female Jello Wrestling squirted out.
Can I take pictures?
Only if you get permission from our Press Rep.annie@annierock.com

Is there nudity?
Of course not! This is a very civilized and mature event. The women participants always conduct themselves with grace and class. Any reports of behavior unbecoming a woman are purely speculation.
